November 7, 2005 – This is the second installment of a series of photos taken at the Great Dane Club of America's Top Twenty Invitational which took place last month at the annual GDCA National Specialty. (Click here if you missed the first installment.)

The Top Twenty Invitational is unique not only due to the outstanding credentials of the contestants, but also because the Danes are not evaluated by a single judge, but rather by a panel of three. It's the only competitive conformation event that uses a scale of points to grade how closely each contender conforms to the breed standard. There is no collaboration between the judges; the winner is determined by totaling the independent scores of each judge.

Typically, the judging for the Top Twenty Invitational is comprised of a breeder judge, a handler judge and a multi-breed judge. Their identities remain a closely guarded secret until the evening of the actual event. The judges for this year's Top Twenty were Jackie White (breeder judge), Dick Schaefer (handler judge) and Carolyn Thomas (multi-breed judge).
