March 20, 2006 – I remember
nine years ago when I attended my very first GDCA National. People
kept buzzing about how much they were looking forward to "The
Parades."
Clearly, the Parades were a very special event,
not to be missed. At the appointed time, still not sure what to expect,
I joined the eager crowd ringside in the exhibition area. We all
watched as one-by-one over 100 Great Danes took
the spotlight for a brief theatrical performance,
accompanied
only
by their handler (most often their
owner) and a carefully selected piece of music.
They happily pranced and danced their way around the ring, wowing the
crowd
every
step of
the
way.
It was
a magical
evening, with many sentimental moments as the oldest of champions performed,
possibly for the last public performance of their magnificent lives.
