January 8, 2007 – I never quite finished
the Tuscany photo album, so it looks like you'll have to suffer through a few
more pictures. (Buck up, folks, it'll be over soon!)
Touring Tuscany
We took a long road trip towards
the end of our trip. As we stopped in a small village along the way to enjoy
a particularly lovely view, we heard very loud "WOOF!" It was the kind
of woof that could only have come from a Great Dane. This was a really big
girl, and she clearly objected to our presence even though we were some distance
away and across the street. (The photos aren't very good, but I
didn't want to upset "Madame Woof" by getting any closer.)
Fe - Fi - Fo - Fum!!! I smell
a stranger!
Don't move! I have you in my sights!
I am the Madame of this
grand castle — keep your distance!
This is my kingdom, this is my view!!
And so we moved on. Farewell to Madame.
The day was still young.
We were in chianti country...
but the grapes had long been harvested...
and the vines were dormant.
Montagliari Winery, producing wine
since 1720, was still open for wine tasting.
We declined the invitation
and continued to climb the golden
hills.
We were headed to Sienna,
With her green shutters, narrow streets,
and lofty towers.
I think they were happy to see us.
Well, maybe not everyone.
We wandered the streets,
and looked in the windows.
You can work up quite an appetite
doing that.
Fortunately, there is no shortage of good restaurants in Italy.
And no shortage of wonderful churches...
This one is located in Lucca.
Same church, different view.
But now it's time to head back to Florence.
It's getting dark and the ground fog
is rolling in.
It will be dark before we know it.
— Thus we ended another splendid day
in Tuscany —
