— The Ava
Invasion —
August
21, 2006 – Cindy Niske (pictured above) dropped by this weekend with seven-month-old
Ava in tow. Although she told us Ava's visit was to provide some puppy
socialization, I think Cindy secretly hopes we'll want to adopt Ava, who's still
looking for the perfect pet home. As Cindy said, "To know her is to love her."
Well, I can't argue with that. Ava displayed
perfect puppy manners and she also cracked us up when she discovered the biggest
water bowl she'd ever seen in her life — our 8 acre pond. It wasn't
long before she was running, jumping and splashing. Our six swans didn't take
kindly to the "Ava Invasion." Although they kept their distance, they
made their displeasure known by hissing and yodeling. Ava was oblivious. She
spent the entire afternoon running in circles, rolling in the grass, prancing
around in the water and planting kisses on Cindy. (Ava is very generous with
her kisses
— my husband and I got our fair share of them, too.)
For those of you who are interested in
this sort of thing, Ava
is a full sister to Mick ( last year's Futurity
winner) from a repeat breeding. Here
are some out-takes from the afternoon:
My husband and I talked it over and due
to our busy travel schedule we've decided the timing isn't right for another
Dane. Matters are further complicated by the fact that my art studio is undergoing
a major renovation. The seemingly endless construction has turned our house upside
down. None-the-less, I have to admit to being tempted by Ava. I hope she'll visit
us again soon. (Woof!)
