— Living
in Germany —
June 9, 2008 — We are settling into our apartment
at The Hanse. So far everything
has been simply wonderful. I don't expect that to change. Our apartment, which
is part of the "international campus," is
spacious and well equipped. The staff is friendly
and helpful. The other residents (Fellows) welcomed us warmly and now they are
showing us the ropes.
Happily, we can walk to the supermarket — a great convenience
since we don't have a car. Saturday we visited the outdoor market; it magically
appears in downtown Delmenhorst twice a week. There we saw every description
of produce, bread, cheese, meat, fish, etc. We loaded up. We'll be back again
on Wednesday.
Not much else to report, other than the fact that yesterday
while taking a long walk on the R2 trail we came across a large black Great
Dane with a big "Germanic" head and a wizened gray muzzle. Unfortunately neither
he nor his master (who was gripping his leash) spoke English. Perhaps next time
I see them I will have a DaDane of DaWeek business card with me. It might be
a good means of introduction.
