I love your Merlin! He is so cute. I think I like adding another dane idea. Not sure about 3 more though. I am at my 3 dane limit right now. Can't wait to hear what you did!

I definitely think you should go for the 3 danes. Well, maybe just one or 2! :-)
Have fun enjoying your peace & quiet, and please let us know what you did!

Keep up the great work, Ginnie! You make my Monday mornings!!

No, Ginnie. Miniature horses is the answer. You will need two, to keep each other company. Another benefit of minis to Danes is, you don't have to try to fit them into your Dane mobile and you don't have to invite them into your bedroom (like the cats and the dogs). LOL

Ha! You sound just like me Ginnie. My husband is deploying this week and won't be back until January. Let's see... the first time he deployed, I totally redecorated the living room. The second time, I moved our turtle into a huge new tank complete with custom-made (by me, of course) waterfall and beach. The last time, I enlisted the help of my dad and remodeled the bathroom! I think he's hoping the busy holiday season will keep me occupied this time... hee hee hee... we shall see!

Totally, one more Dane. He'll never know. Cause by the time he gets back the Dane will act like its been there forever.

Definitely consider adopting one more Dane! In fact, why don't you come visit us at Great Dane Rescue of the Carolinas in Charlotte, NC. We're not that far!

Thanks for the wonderful work that you do! Reading your articles is always a bright spot on a Monday.

I 've had Sadie for a little over 3 weeks now and she is 6 months old.. and a real go getter !!!..now I know why women over 40 don't have babies !!!!!! just kidding,, she is a handfull but a great joy too... we are working on basic commands.. rides in the car ,,and meeting people.... have fun with whatever you decide to do !!!!!!!

I'm thinking along the lines of: a Dane the first week, rearrange the entire house to FIT the dogs the second week, and shove everything in the art studio into a corner the third week! <vbg> How's that for a solution?! <lol>
Seriously, though -I know what you mean about going a little nutso when your husband leaves town -once Joe came home from England and declared: "Thank God the toilet and tub are bolted down or I'd never find ANYTHING!" <lol>
When some things are out of our control -we control the things we CAN! <g>
Hugs to Merlin from Catherine (who finally got used to having that new, blue chewtoy in her life: Arnold! <vbg>)

Definitely add a Dane. You know if you go to the rescue site you will find one that will fit perfectly. You do have to be careful though. I did that in July and found two young black females that they wanted to go together and figured why not? Now I have 3 Danes and one Husky cross. The two new babies of course have to sleep in the bed too. My hsband is talking about buying another bed since the kingsize is getting a bit crowded. They keep it nice and warm though and never a dull moment. Karen

Ginnie,

I think you are long over due for a Dane addition. I would even bet Billy wouldn't be the least bit surprised.
Two would be fun but certainly more of a challenge. Three?! Well that would definitely be more like work.

Hope you share the Golden Opportunity with the rest of us too.
Might be good for a laugh.

Valerie

A dane or danes gets my vote! I'm sure Merlin could find it in his heart to share (or not....) Can't wait to see what you do.

Hi Ginnie,
I strongly suggest another Dane so Merlin can teach him and a miniature Sicilian donkey; these pair up GREAT.
Mine has traveled in the van; however, he does not share my bed with the Danes.

oups, lets try again!
I don't know about more danes right before xmas...but if you are going to have the time for them in that busy time, then, YES, at least one more. How about going nuts with xmas decorations, that way, Billy won't be too surprised ;-)

Well, a Dane would be nice, but and Alapca- now there's a USEFUL addition to the family! Cute, not too big (under 6' tall) and covered with soft fluffy wool. Then think about miniatore horses and donkeys is that the hooves are so loud. And hard on the floors. Alpaca, being cousins to the camel have nice quiet pads to sneak around on. Don't have too much fun ;)
Thanks for keeping Mondays a happy day for all thses years.

Ginnie,
love the pictures of Merlin! The coloring is so great on the veterans, how could you NOT love them?
I vote for another Dane...and I have a cute little black girl willing to travel!

I think you should get another Great Dane. They entertain each other, but they get in double the trouble! Hope everything works out!

Ginnie, is three weeks enough time to send him a postcard stating, "Hi, Ginnie and Billy have moved. Our new address is....." (Aah, to be a sand flea to see the look on his face.) Keep up the wonderful work! W&M

What coudl be What could be worse tha losing a man? Losing a dane of course! Losing a dane is ALWAYS worse than losing a man. Its the saddes thing in the world :( Danes have more sensistivity, wetter, more kissable noses and more kissable noses and some (not all) are better bed follows. Except Elisabeth, who kickes me, hogs my pillow, blanket and breaks wind in my face! But then, that's a **girl** dane. My boys have been by me thorugh thick and thin! Would a dane even **think** about leaving the yard without you? No way! And what creature is more emotionally available (Except Elizabeth *the bitch** of course--who will use you for all you're worth :) But we keep her around because Drake, the harle the puppy likes to pick on her and watching her become "humbled" has been most satisfying. Yes, danes are like potato chips--bet ya can't have just one ;) Thanks for all the years of yoru wonderful site. Enjoy your e-cards and miss your calendars. But you're busy as a---well a person trying to keep their danes in kibble :)) Happy holidays!

No Goats - I tried that one and they would not leave my front porch. For months I had to sweep to use the entry - my dogs thought they were power pellets. I would most certainly get another Dane. Recue one. My Star is 6 and I am trying to adopt through Deaf Dane Rescue. And get a pup. I may get all at once - that would be wonderful.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I would re-decorate the "art" room. Turn it into what you "really" want while he's away. There are no distractions with him gone, just do it! To me there is no better feeling than spending a day of work in a room that you LOVE! There are so many ideas out there to make it into something spectacular!! Good Luck!
