"The Magical Merle"

When I announced plans for a series featuring different Great Dane coat colors, several people wrote to ask if merles would be included. Yes!

The merle color, which sometimes appears in harlequin breedings, is not recognized by the Great Dane Club of America for the conformation ring. None-the-less, merles make wonderful pets, and many do quite well in obedience and agility competition.

Penelope is a lovely boston marked merle (or mantled merle, as some might call her) owned by Suzzane Kelleher-Duckett. As you can see, Penelope provides an good example of an attractive merle-and-white coat.
