I would like to send my sincerest condolences to you on the loss of your best friend. I can see in your photos that all Danes are equal my "Shufi" acts the same as Brutus did in your photos, so I see your loss as one of my own. We need to keep remembering the good times with our beloved friends and keep their memory living on after they are gone.

I just wanted to let you know that the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is reducing the number of mute swans by around 3,000. They site adverse ecological impacts and confilcts with people. You might want to check this link ot to read about the program:

I am interested in the article quoted about capsaicin and birds. It mentioned that birds don't like grape, and so I am wondering if you have tried grape flavoring in a spray bottle on little big?

I used to have geese, and while they are not nearly as aggressive as swans, they did still attack on occation. I solved the problem by grabbing them by the neck just under the head and petting their neck while just putting up with the wing beatings. They HATED being pet. After two or three times, they would stay out of my reach, and solved the problem. I am rather large, however (275 lbs) so this might not be the answer for you.

Ginnie: Why do you still put up with that nasty critter. Think, how peaceful your place would be without him.

Penni and I want to thank you so much for your kind comments. And, especially thanks to you Ginnie for your kind compassion and mention of Brutus' passing and our love for that goofy boy.

Ingrid: I am SERIOUSLY thinking about having him euthanized and stuffed. He's too mean to live with, and too dangerous to sell off. No kidding, I think he'd make a nice centerpiece for our diningroom table.

Karen: Thank you for that fantastic link! Everyone should read it. It is a real eye-opener. I wonder if we now need to have a federal license to own (or sell) these swans. Something to look into, anyway.

Do you have any advice for me about our resident alligator? He's over 4 feet now and still growing. Last year they were attacking him, but this year, the swans won't go near him.

Dear Ginny... While this is off the subject of swans, I wanted to tell you about our Great Dane Inge. She is the love of our lives. My husband and I have no children. She is our child. Inge is noe 10 years old, and we just found out that she has cancer. Its very aggresive, and if we opted for surgery, they would have to remove all of her lower left jaw, and part of the right. While money is no object, when she had her biopsy done, it took her all day to come out of the anisthetic. We are going to keep her as comfortable as possible, and when the time comes, let her go with dignity. I just wqanted to tell you about this, and to let you know how much we love your web site. Thanks for listening. Brenda & Denis Plourde...

I, too am sorry for your losses. I am not a breeder of any kind, but a person gave us a Great Dane puppy. She is so cute, but my husband has a hard time keeping after her. If you know of anyone who would give her a good home, I would appreciate knowing about it. I truly hate to give up the black, 2 month old sweetheart, but I don't have much choice. I am sorry to put this on your site. If I offended anyone, I am sorry.

I howled at the pepper spray story. I really needed that! Sorry, Ginnie don't mean to laugh at your expense. On another note so sorry to hear about the loss. Danes are such special "people."
Valerie-who has the dane puppy-where do you live?

I must say, you guys are absolutely wonderful!! I posted on Thursday, feeling quite uneasy about doing so. But so many of you precious people have emailed and tried to help me and the cute puppy that fell into our laps. Tonight our pup found a home with another Great Dane pup in Lees Summit, Missouri. I feel so relieved that she will have the good home she deserves. All of you who have offered help, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am getting a little teary just thinking about it. God Bless you all and your precious Great Danes. Take care!
