"Watchdog" Do Great Danes make good watchdogs? Those of us who own Great Danes know that our pets have many talents, habits, and eccentricities which are characteristic of the Great Dane breed. Are they good watchdogs?! It depends on your point of view. And that of your Dane. Recently a visitor to the Great Dane Checklist sent me a note describing how his particular dog approaches the formidable task of watchdogging: "You know you are a Great Dane owner if your dog wakes you up in the middle of the night to warn you of the dangers of a kitchen chair, then sleeps through the theft of all your valuable possessions!"
